From Heavy Burden to Filled with Peace

At Doulos Partners, we regularly hear stories of transformation that remind us why the Gospel is worth everything. One such testimony comes from a woman in South Asia whose devotion to her gods could not bring the peace she longed for. In the midst of brokenness and despair, through the prompting of her mother- in-law, she encountered Jesus after joining a local group. That is when everything changed. A Search for Peace – Chhaya’s Story
I come from a Hindu family and was a great devotee of the goddess, Kali. Unfortunately, all of my beliefs and Hindu practices never brought peace to my life. My relationship with my husband was not good at all, and due to some family issues, my husband asked me for a divorce. I tried to do whatever I could to fix our marriage problems, but it failed. I went into deep depression because I was very hurt and disappointed with my life. So, one day I decided that it would be better to end my life and my sorrows because I felt that I had lost everything.
A New Beginning
Thankfully, my mother-in-law had heard about Jesus, and she encouraged me to attend the group in our neighborhood and talk to the Christian people. She told me that they would pray and could help me. She literally forced me to attend, so I reluctantly went. When I heard the message of Jesus Christ, my heart was filled with peace, and I felt as if some heavy burden was lifted from my heart. I asked the members to pray for me, and I was given a bible to read.
A Family Transformed
After reading God’s word, I understood the love of God, and it changed my life. The Lord Jesus answered my prayers and brought peace in our marital relationship. I am so thankful because my husband is still with me, and he also, after hearing the Gospel, has decided to follow Jesus. We left all our idol worship, and we now follow only Jesus. Praise God, my entire family knows Jesus as their personal Savior today.
